How to Write Sales Scripts and Objection Responses with AI (With Prompt Examples)

Writing a sales script with AI means giving ChatGPT or Claude the product, the customer profile, the most frequent objections and the team's real speaking tone, and having it produce opening, discovery, objection response and follow-up texts as drafts. The secret is not in the tool but in the brief: the more concrete the product and customer information, the less the text reads like a template. In this article I share the patterns I use in workshops with sales teams. You can copy them and fill them in with your own product.

The brief first: what should the tool be given?

The same five pieces of information go at the top of every prompt. Write them once, save them and paste them at the top every time:

  • Product and difference: What you sell, and how it differs from the competitor in a single sentence.
  • Customer profile: Industry, role, decision process, typical concern. No personal data, a profile.
  • Tone: Three example sentences from the team's real conversations. Without this the tool produces advertising language.
  • Prohibitions: Things that will not be promised, words that will not be used, a ban on exaggeration.
  • Channel and length: Phone, WhatsApp, email, face to face. How many sentences.

The opening line pattern

"Using the product and customer profile above, write a 20-second phone opening for a [role] being called for the first time. Introduce yourself, state the reason for the call in one sentence, end with a question that asks permission. Give three different tone options: warm, direct, curious. Do not use advertising language, do not make promises."

One of the three options is chosen and one sentence is changed into the team's own language. That change is the step that stops the script reading like a template.

The discovery questions pattern

"Write 8 discovery questions to understand this customer profile's current situation, pain and decision process. No yes-or-no questions, each question should open the door to the next. Put the questions in order and under each one write in a single sentence which answer points to which product."

The objection response pattern

"The 10 objections we hear most often are these: [list]. For each one write a 2-sentence response in the acknowledge, reason, question structure. Do not start an argument, do not defend the price, explain the value. End each response with a question that moves the conversation forward."

The responses produced for the "your competitor is cheaper" objection are usually the weakest, because the tool tends to defend the price. Adding "value instead of price, with a concrete example" to the brief changes the result.

Role-play rehearsal

Writing the text is half the job. The other half is rehearsal: "You are [customer profile]. I am the sales representative and I have called you. Answer like a difficult but not rude customer, raise one objection each turn. When the conversation ends give me three pieces of feedback: what I did well, where I lost you, which sentence I should change." This rehearsal cuts a new representative's first week down to two days.

The follow-up message pattern

"Write a three-step follow-up sequence for a customer who has been silent for three weeks since the meeting: day 3, day 10, day 21. Each message two sentences, in WhatsApp tone, reviving interest without pressure and ending with a single question. Leave one field in each message to be filled in specifically for the customer."

Five mistakes to avoid

  • Saying "write a sales script" without giving the product and profile.
  • Using the text that comes out without changing anything.
  • Entering the customer's name and personal data into the prompt.
  • Using a text written for one channel on every channel.
  • Going into the field without rehearsing.

These patterns and more are in the free prompt library. For a library built in one day with the team's own product and objections, see AI training for sales teams. For a sales professional working alone, individual AI training. For a tool comparison, AI tools for sales teams 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a sales script written with AI read like a template?

It does with a bad brief. If the product, the customer profile, the most frequent objections and the team's real speaking tone do not go into the prompt, the text comes out generic. The patterns in this article exist precisely to give the tool that information.

Which tool is better, ChatGPT or Claude?

Both are strong at this. Claude is often preferred for long scripts with a consistent tone, ChatGPT for fast variants and role-play rehearsal. The most practical way is to give the same prompt to both and pick the one closer to the team's voice.

Can the customer's name and price information be entered into the prompt?

The customer's name and personal data are not entered. They are written anonymously as an industry and a profile. For price lists and contract terms, the company's data rule applies. Usually only as much as needed is entered, in a corporate account.

Are a phone script and a WhatsApp message written with the same prompt?

No. Channel, length and tone are part of the prompt. A phone script is conversational and branching, while a WhatsApp message is two sentences and ends with a single question.

How do I roll these patterns out to the team?

Set up a prompt library, open it to the whole team and review it monthly. A library built in a full-day workshop with the team's own proposals and objections settles in much faster. Details are on the AI training for sales teams page.
